Arktos the Snowman
was a very poor devil.
With a carrot instead of a nose
and a tophat on his head.
Eyes out of coal
and a heart made of ice
And his only joy was
to make everything white
But he had a problem
He had to be lonely
Because inside his cold world
was only room for him alone.
Arktos the Snowman
was pretty sick of it.
Full of yearning he flew to the world
downright at Christmas time.
Inside a garden
he stood before a house.
And he had not long to wait
because children came out.
Oh, how they laughed
How happy they were
Look! It snowed over night
The Snowman came at the right time.
Arktos the Snowman
was a very cool Guy
All children of the neighbourhood
soon loved him very much
When he told stories
the Earth nearly quaked
About dragonfire and ice
as if he really saw it.
The winter went
The sun shone brighter every day
Arktos became very thinn.
and suddenly his place was empty
Only his old broomstick
was all that they found
Tacked on a note, black and white
On which was written
Arktos the Snowman
thanks you all very much.
Because of you and your help
my life is not empty anymore.
I must go home
but soon in the next year
When the first snow falls
I will be back for you.

Have pity, my one love and sole delight!
Down to a dark abyss my heart has sounded,
A mournful world, by grey horizons bounded,
Where blasphemy and horror swim by night.
For half the year a heatless sun gives light,
The other half the night obscures the earth.
The arctic regions never knew such dearth.
No woods, nor streams, nor creatures meet the sight.
No horror in the world could match in dread
The cruelty of that dire sun of frost,
And that huge night like primal chaos spread.
I envy creatures of the vilest kind
That they in stupid slumber can be lost —
So slowly does the skein of time unwind!
